.
The South Carolina Rail Road was extensively damaged during the Civil War, and they issued these beautifully engraved Certificates of Indebtedness to raise capital for repairs and operating expenses. Printed by the American Bank Note Company in the finest manner, they look like the paper money that the South Carolina Rail Road issued during this time period, and they may have circulated as money. 8 1/2″ by 4 1/2″. Some light age toning at the edges, punch cancelled, otherwise Almost Uncirculated.

Is It Graded Correctly?
– Most
buyers trust the grading services, but what about coins and notes that aren’t
certified? I’ve been in the coin and paper money business since 1973 and have
cataloged numismatic material for major auction companies such as
Stack’s-Bowers, Spink, and R. M. Smythe & Company, but perhaps the best way
to feel confident in my grading is to look at my eBay feedback (
